A wanted accused named Farman was injured in a police encounter in Aligarh on Sunday after he allegedly opened fire on a police team that was attempting to arrest him. The encounter took place during a joint operation conducted by the City Special Operations Group and the local police station team.
SP City Aligarh, Aditya Bansal, confirmed the details of the incident. Farman had been carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 on his head. He had been absconding since September 2025 in connection with a cow slaughter case.

“Today, the City SOG team received intelligence regarding his movement in the area and learned that he was planning to commit a crime with his associates,” Bansal said.
Based on this intelligence, a joint team was assembled and moved in to arrest Farman.
When the police team closed in and attempted to make the arrest, Farman allegedly opened fire on the officers. The police returned fire in self-defence, injuring Farman. A second associate who was present at the scene managed to flee before he could be apprehended.
No police personnel were reported injured in the exchange of fire. Farman was subsequently taken to a hospital for medical treatment, according to SP City Bansal.
Following the encounter, police recovered several items from Farman’s possession. These included a motorcycle without a registration number plate, an illegal .315 bore pistol, and live cartridges.
The unregistered motorcycle and the illegal firearm are being treated as part of the evidence in the case. The recovery of live cartridges alongside the pistol supports the police account that Farman was armed at the time of the encounter.
